Nurse Inspired Technology for
Better Patient Outcomes

Technology

Nursing Workforce Optimization

Nightingale’s technology allows nurse stakeholders to visualize nursing workforce and operations analytics to optimize patient and nurse outcomes. These analytics inform operations including nurse care coordination, staffing, scheduling, patient matching, hiring, training, and promotion. Nightingale’s nursing workforce technology analyzes each nurses’ care delivery to reveal their unique caring fingerprint. Sophisticated proprietary algorithms then explore relationships between each nurses’ caring fingerprint and outcomes to empower nurse stakeholders to optimally employ and deploy their nursing workforce. This translates to safer and more efficient care environments, better outcomes, cost savings, and more revenue.

Care Coordination

Every shift nurse stakeholders from charge nurses to staffing coordinators spend time to ensure that every inpatient unit has safe staffing. This process is time-sensitive, can be stressful, and can impact nurse and patient outcomes if done sub-optimally. Nightingale’s nursing workforce technology provides these nurse stakeholders with overviews of hospital and unit level descriptive statistics related to staffing. The interface identifies which units have staffing needs and what units will benefit most from the available nursing resources. The software facilitates making this data actionable by allowing for the allocation of staff to units efficiently. This translates to more efficient care delivery and safer care delivery environments with implications for nurse and patient outcomes as well as costs of care.

Hiring

The search, selection, and integration of nurses into clinical environments can be time consuming, costly, and negatively impact outcomes if the best-fitting nurse is not hired. Nightingale provides the “caring fingerprint” of both individual nurses and entire nursing workforces revealing what strengths and gaps exist on individual, unit, and hospital-levels. In the context of hiring, this informs what nurses would best complement the existing workforce based on the caring strengths of the current nursing workforce.

Staffing

Healthcare systems face challenges ensuring safe nurse staffing on every unit every shift. This is challenging because nursing resources are scarce and nurse staffing represents a significant cost. Administrators want to avoid both costly overstaffing and unsafe understaffing. While overstaffing represents a loss of financial resources, understaffing creates unsafe environments that translate to poor outcomes and additional costs through insurance withholdings, government penalties, lawsuits, and more. Therefore, administrators want to get this just right. Nightingale provides analytics that inform what staffing levels are optimal on every unit every shift. Likewise, Nightingale provides analytics to help inform the optimal deployment of scarce nursing resources between units when a decision needs to be made to send a nurse to one understaffed unit over another.

Matching

Charge nurses in every hospital, on every unit, every shift, must match nurses with patients for the provision of care. This process can be time consuming and stressful. Additionally, how these matches are made between nurses and patients impact patient and nurse outcomes and costs of care. Currently, this process often involves pencil and paper, limited if any analytics, and no technology to optimize these matches. Nightingale provides data analytics and a software interface that makes this process more efficient and safer for nurses and patients by optimally aligning nurses with patients. This translates to better outcomes and lower costs of care.

Training

Nurses require ongoing training to maintain safe clinical environments. This ongoing training can be costly, inefficient, and logistically challenging. Ideally, health system educators want to know exactly what nurses need training in what clinical competencies based on the care they deliver. Currently there is no technology that keeps track of nurses’ “care fingerprint” identifying the outcomes associated with each nurses’ clinical care. Insight of this nature would reveal what training each nurse could benefit from facilitating the targeting limited training resources. Nightingale’s provides analytics associated with each nurses’ care revealing what training they could benefit from to improve outcomes.
